Weekend Activities Highlight Holiday Kickoff In Glenwood

The local holiday season gets underway this weekend with a variety of activities, highlighted by the 2nd Annual Glenwood Holiday Festival on Friday and Saturday.
Friday’s Holiday Festival highlights are a light and decor competition among several businesses from 4 - 8 p.m.; horse and carriage rides around Town Square starting at 5 p.m., arrival of Santa Claus and tree lighting ceremony on the southeast corner of the square at 6 p.m.; photos with Santa from 6 - 8 p.m.; and extended business hours until 8 p.m. by local stores and establishments. Complimentary hot cocoa will be served while a a toy drive for the Love Tree is taking place at the South Walnut Collective Building Friday evening.
Saturday’s Holiday Festival activities include horse and carriage rides around the square from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.; holiday shopping at participating businesses during the same hours and a Holiday Home Tour from 5 - 8 p.m. For home tour information, email jenwilson2141@gmail.com or call 712-309-1331.
Also taking place Saturday is the annual Breakfast With Santa from 8:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the Mills County YMCA. The event includes a pancake breakfast, children’s activities and photos with Santa.
On Sunday afternoon, the Glenwood Community Band will present its annual holiday concert in the Glenwood Middle School Cafeteria.The concert begins at 3 p.m. and will feature a full slate of holiday classics in addition to some new songs. There is no admission charge for Sunday’s concert, but free-will donations for the band’s future music purchases would be accepted and appreciated.
