Supervisors To Appoint Next County Treasurer

Mills County Treasurer Jill Ford.

The next Mills County Treasurer will be appointed by the Mills County Board Of Supervisors.

The supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday morning to appoint a replacement for Jill Ford, who is retiring at the end of the month. The supervisors also had the option of allowing Mills County citizens to select the next county treasurer through a special election process.

“I don’t want to go through the expense of a special election,” said Mills County Supervisor Carol Vinton. “That would be too much money for the county.”

Ford read from a prepared statement in announcing her retirement to the board of supervisors on Nov. 26.

“Dear Richard, Carol and Lonnie, I wish to inform you of my pending retirement. My last day will be December 31 of this year,” she said. “I have had the pleasure of serving the citizens of Mills County and working with you as Mills County Treasurer for the last 6-plus years.

“I always appreciated your willingness to work with me.”

Vinton and fellow supervisors Richard Crouch and Lonnie Mayberry accepted Ford’s resignation with reluctance and praised her for the work she’s done while in office.

“The progress you have put forward in that office is greatly appreciated by the taxpayers of Mills County,” Crouch said.

Mayberry thanked Ford for her work and Vinton praised Ford for her relentlessness in addressing tax-collection issues.

A retirement reception for Ford will take place Friday, Dec. 13, in the Mills County Courthouse board room from 1 - 4 p.m.
