State Dental Board Suspends License Of Glenwood Dentist

The Iowa Board of Dentistry has suspended the license of a Glenwood dentist after determining he poses “an imminent threat to public safety.”
The license of Dr. Calvin Weber, 65, was suspended in December by the state dental board, but the action wasn’t made public until last week.
The suspension comes amid accusations by the dental board of Weber having improper sexual contact with a patient or making lewd, lascivious or improper remarks or advances to a patient and violating Iowa law regarding the practice of dentistry.
In December, a Mills County Magistrate Court judge found Weber guilty of “Assault – Contact Insulting or Offensive” relating to an incident that occurred at and outside of his Glenwood office last summer.
According to a complaint on file at the Mills County Clerk Of Court’s Office, the assault occurred on July 24, 2023.
The female victim came to the Glenwood Police Station and reported that while in the office of Dr . Weber, the dentist told her she was “sexy” and grabbed her buttocks. She reported that Weber then followed her out of the building and again grabbed her buttocks while pulling her closer and stating “keep being sexy.”
The incident is not the first time the dental board has suspended Weber’s license because of inappropriate behavior and unprofessional conduct. In 1993, he was charged with making improper suggestive remarks and sexual advances toward multiple female patients, including a teenager, who had been sedated for a dental procedure.
Following a hearing in 1993, the dental board determined the testimony of three former patients of Weber’s to be credible. Weber’s license was suspended indefinitely and he was ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation within 60 days before being considered for license reinstatement. In 1994, Weber surrendered his license after failing to submit to an evaluation.
Weber moved to Florida after giving up his dental license in 1994. Twelve years later, in 2006, he contacted the dental board and asked what steps he could take to have his license reinstated in Iowa. Weber submitted to an evaluation, took a dentistry skills test and agreed to undergo ongoing therapy. The board initially reinstated his license on a probationary basis but lifted the probation status in 2011.
A hearing before the dental board on Weber’s current license suspension is pending.
