Malvern grocer Tom Mulholland has announced his intentions to rebuild and reopen his popular grocery store that was gutted by a massive fire last month.

“I said that we would do our best to keep people informed about the future plans, so here I am. The decision has been made to rebuild and reopen Mulholland Grocery,” he stated in a post on the store’s Facebook page Monday. “The investigation still has a long way to go and I’ve just started to take the very first steps forward in planning, but wanted to make sure that the news came from here first, as I had said previously. As more news, or any guesstimate at a time frame comes into play, you’ll be informed.”

Mulholland added that he’s thankful for the caring comments and support he’s received from friends and patrons of the store over the past four weeks.

“The feeling of community is one of the big reasons that this decision has been made, and I hope to help insure a better future for our whole community with this addition,” the Facebook post stated.

The Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office is continuing its investigation into the fire that occurred at the Main Street business on Dec. 13.
