Kooiker Selected To Be Glenwood Community School District Superintendent

Nicole Kooiker

Nicole Kooiker has been hired as the Glenwood Community School District’s next superintendent.

Kooiker’s hiring was announced Tuesday by the Glenwood Board of Education.

Kooiker has served as Glenwood’s interim superintendent since July. She was tabbed for the permanent position from a finalist pool that included Chariton Community School District Superintendent Brad Baker and East Marshall CSD Superintendent Anthony Ryan.

Since taking over in her interim role last summer, Kooiker has lead districts efforts in facility planning, budget allocation, and enhancing student learning outcomes.  She is also an active community member, serving on the Mills County Economic Development Board, Mills County YMCA Board and Glenwood Rotary.

Kooiker’s leadership experience includes roles as deputy superintendent and administrator in the Cedar Rapids CSD and as chief executive officer and superintendent in the Ottumwa CSD. Previously, she served as the West Marshall CSD superintendent. She is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in education from the University of Iowa and holds an education specialist degree in educational leadership from the University of Northern Iowa.

“I am honored to officially serve as the permanent superintendent of the Glenwood Community School District,” said Kooiker. “During my time as interim superintendent, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside dedicated educators, staff, students, and families who are all committed to the success of our district. I look forward to working together to build on our successes, address challenges, and ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed.”

“Nicole has demonstrated exceptional leadership and a clear vision for the future of our district,” said Glenwood Board President Matt Portrey. “We are confident in her ability to lead Glenwood into its next chapter and are excited to see how her continued leadership will benefit our students and community.”

Board members worked with Grundmeyer Leader Services to conduct the search. Kooiker, Baker and Ryan took part in final interviews with a group consisting of parents, teachers, and community members Monday afternoon.

Kooiker’s interim title will be officially removed at the board meeting scheduled for Dec. 9 and she’ll continue leading the district in her role as superintendent.
