Investigators Seek Leads On Fatal Shooting At I-29 Speedway
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and the Omaha Police Department are asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating suspects in a fatal shooting that took place Aug. 10 at the I-29 Speedway near Pacific Junction.
Two men, Marcus L. Johnson, 28, and Charles A. Williams Jr., 27, both from Omaha, died as a result of the shooting.
The incident occurred in the parking lot at the motorsports racing track just before 9 p.m., about the time an outdoor concert was to begin. The concert, featuring the Hip-Hop music of Lil Boosie, Rob49 and Rich The Factor, was to be the culmination of a day-long schedule of events taking place at the speedway, including a car show, comedy show and drag racing.
Law enforcement investigators have released few details regarding the shooting, but a post on the I-29 Speedway Facebook page two days after the incident by general manager Doug Whitworth stated, “The 2 victims were just walking towards the concert entrance when a vehicle drove up to them and the vehicle occupants shot the victims from inside of the vehicle, they then drove out of the facility. There were no words exchanged, no arguments, and no warning.
“There were deputies within 20 feet of the shooting and the criminals did not care.”
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Omaha Police Department at 402-444-5610, Omaha Crime Stoppers at 402-444-STOP, or submit a tip on the P3 Tips mobile app.
