Glenwood Fills Vacant City Council Seat
The Glenwood City Council is back to full strength.
Michael Lines was appointed in a 3-1 vote last week to fill the at-large city council seat vacated in January by Holly Jackson.
Four applicants applied for the position and were interviewed by members of the city council.
Christina Duran, who joined the council in January, cast the lone “No” vote against Lines’ appointment.
Council member Laurie Smithers publicly thanked the four applicants, noting the selection process was difficult because they all had good answers during the interview process.
Lines was issued his oath of office by Mayor Angie Winquist. His term in office runs through December 2025.
The city did have the option of holding a election to fill the position and the citizens can petition for a special election, however city officials preferred making an appointment because of the cost associated with an election.
