Glenwood Aquatic Center Set To Open On Memorial Day

The Glenwood Aquatic Center is scheduled to open Monday, May 27.

The Glenwood Aquatic Center is scheduled to open on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27.

Glenwood City Administrator Amber Farnan said she’s optimistic  the facility will be open for a full season of swimming in 2024.

Water-loss issues kept the aquatic center from opening in 2022 and delayed the start of the 2023 swimming season. During repairs in 2023, some additional damage was detected.

“They opened up a couple areas where we knew there was some leakage, we just couldn’t find it,” Farnan said Monday. “What they found is that it looked like a couple of the feeder lines may have been nicked when it was first put in.

“That area was always a little marshy over by the lily pad. They should be pouring concrete Wednesday if the weather holds. They’re over there today packing soil.”

Farnan said consideration is being given to changing the direction of the lily pad.

“What we talked about today is changing the direction of the lily pad so that kids aren’t standing over in that area dripping wet,” she said. “We’ll go the other way to pull some water away from that area.”

Season passes for the 2024 aquatic center season went on sale Monday at City Hall. and will continue to be sold  Monday - Friday from 7:30 a.m. - noon and 1 - 3:45 p.m. at City Hall or by appointment by calling 712-527-4717 during regular business hours.
