Former Motel, Apartment Complex Demolished In Glenwood

A former Glenwood motel and apartment complex was demolished last week.

The 10-unit, one story apartment building and adjoining house, which had two apartments, was located off the northwest corner of the Locust Street –Sharp Street intersection .

The property is owned by M&J Properties. Owner Jodi Evans said the decision was made to vacate and level the structure last summer after an underground gas leak was detected.

“The process started when we had a gas leak and the gas company was unable to find the leak.  They said it was underground,” Evans said. “We spent quite a bit of time and effort trying to locate the gas leak with no luck. We then made the decision to move out the tenants. We gave them plenty of notice to find other housing and then went through the process of preparing to tear it down.”

Evans said the immediate plan for the site is to make it a green space.

“Just right now, we’re just going to seed it, level it out and make it look pretty,” she said.
