Dirt Moving At East Mills Construction Site
Preliminary dirt work for the East Mills Community School District construction project has begun.
Bull dozers and other pieces of construction equipment arrived at the site last month.
The planned $22 million facility upgrade includes the renovation of the existing East Mills Middle School and High School into a a consolidated pre-kindergarten through 12th grade building. The project includes new classrooms, a gymnasium, weight room, commons area and secure entrances to the building.
East Mills Elementary School will be relocated from the current elementary campus at the former Nishna Valley School to the new facility. Plans call for the existing elementary school building to be converted into a career and technical education center that will serve southwest Iowa.
The East Mills Regional Center For Technical Education will be a public-private partnership between the school district and multiple business, industry and non-profit entities.
Construction work at the new facility in Malvern is projected to be completed by Fall 2024. School district voters approved the project during a 2021 bond issue vote.
