Business Spotlight - Retail Remix

The Mills County Chamber Of Commerce recently hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Retail Remix store in Glenwood.
Retail Remix, a consignment store in the shopping plaza on South Locust Street, is filling a need in the Glenwood community.
“We wanted to do something different. We always thought it would be a really enjoyable thing to do,” said David Cutshall, who co-owns the store with the wife Tina. “It didn’t seem like there was really anything in the area that fit this niche, so we just decided to try it.”
The store has a wide variety of inventory – both items being sold on consignment and items the Cutshalls have stocked on their own. The inventory includes both adult and children’s clothing, shoes, purses, DVDs, CDs, books, decorative items and small home appliances.
“We have a lot of stuff,” Cutshall said. “A lot of clothes. It’s very seasonal so right now we only accept fall and winter clothes. Feb. 1, we’ll take all the clothes to 50% off for the entire month. After that, we switch all the inventory out to spring and summer clothes and go from there.”
“We’re very particular about the things we take. It has to be in good shape, not torn or ripped – unless they’re supposed to be torn and ripped, jeans and such.”
Cutshall noted the store is extremely particular when it comes to the shoes it accepts.
“If you find a pair of shoes you like in your size, they’re going to be really nice shoes,” he said. “I think we found six pair over there that are physically new with the tags on them, still.”
The number of consignors with items at the store has grown steadily in recent months, Cutshall added. The store keeps 60% of the purchase cost and consignors receive a payout about once a month.
“We’re up to about 175 consignors right now,” he said.
In addition to the consignment items, Retail Remix features some other unique offerings from vendors who sell everything from art, crafts and gourmet cotton candy to auto air fresheners and tumblers.
One very popular item at the store are the custom-made gift baskets created by the Cutshalls. They range in price from around $10 for a basket with some mugs and cocoa to around $40 for a basket of Sephora and Bath and Body products.
“They’ve been very popular and they’re all very nice,” Cutshall said. “They’re great to take to a holiday gift party.”
The Cutshalls, who have lived in the Glenwood community for 22 years, both have a lengthy background in the medical field. David was a pharmacy tech and Tina is a physician assistant in the emergency room at Jennie Edmundson Hospital. David gave up his pharmacy position to manage the store full-time.
“We’ve been in the community a very long time,” Cutshall said. “We’ve been very happy with the level of acceptance for the store. We just want people to know they can come in here and find all kinds of treasures.”
