A Boom For The Band - Fireworks Sales Underway In Glenwood

Heather Mauer of Firehouse Fireworks shows off some the popular items available at the company’s stands in Glenwood.

The Glenwood instrumental music program is once again benefiting from the sale of fireworks. The band is working at two stands this year.

With the Fourth of July holiday less than a week away, the sale of fireworks is expected to heat up at two tent-covered stands in Glenwood.

The stands are both located on along South Locust Street - in the parking lot on the west side of the road near Russ’s Supermarket and on the east side of the road between Flat Iron Laundry Center and Hotel Arthur. The stands are owned and managed by Eric and Heather Mauer of Firehouse Fireworks. Beginning Thursday, both stands will be staffed by Glenwood Community High School band students and parents.

Firehouse Fireworks has partnered with the band for the past several years and it’s been a win-win arrangement, Heather Mauer said. The band members assist with a variety of tasks at the stands, ranging from sales and stocking shelves to overnight security.

The sale of fireworks became legal in Iowa in 2017. The Glenwood  Band Parents organization got involved in selling fireworks right away in 2017 and over the years, the sales have proven to be a financial beneifit for band members. Funds generated at the fireworks stands have helped pay expenses for band members’ related to trips with the Southwest Iowa Honor Band and other activities.

The two stands will be open daily through July 4 from 8 a.m. - 10 p.m.
