Maxine I. Hatfield, 93, Malvern
Maxine Iona Hatfield, age 93, of Malvern, died at Glen Haven nursing home in Glenwood on Jan. 21, 2009. Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home in Malvern. Officiating was Pastor Gordon Scott. Interment was in the Malvern Cemetery.
One of five children of Bessie May (Cozad) and Ross C. Atkinson, she was born on May 9, 1915, in Malvern. She grew up and attended schools in Malvern, graduating from Malvern High School in 1933. Following school, she was employed at the cold storage plant for a few years.
She married Forrest Alfred Hatfield on Aug. 15, 1934, at the Methodist Parsonage in Rock Port, Mo. They made their home in Malvern and their marriage was blessed with a son, Regee Arlis. Mrs. Hatfield was a member of the Baptist Church in Malvern. She enjoyed being a homemaker and mother; traveling with her husband “Frosty,” playing with her grandchildren, and attending family get-togethers. She looked forward to her daily cup of tea with her long-time neighbor, Verna Swoboda, and her nightly telephone visits with Doris Schroeder. She always enjoyed sharing her stories and visits about her great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hatfield continued to live at her home until declining health caused her to move to Glen Haven Home in Glenwood, in late March 2008.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 59 years, Forrest Hatfield in 1994; brother Theron Atkinson; sisters, Effie Lucille in infancy; Ila Waller; and Winifred Bender. She is survived by her son, Regee Hatfield and wife Dee of Malvern; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
A memorial fund has been established.
