Mary B. Bartles, 86, Pacific Junction

Mary B. Bartles, 86, of Pacific Junction, died April 7, 2009, at Glen Haven Home in Glenwood. Funeral services were held Monday, April 13, 2009, at Peterson Mortuary in Glenwood. Pastor Mike Stevens officiated. Interment will be in the Martin Chapel Cemetery in Pacific Junction at a later date.

She was born on May 15, 1922, in Red Oak, to George and Georgia (Sadler) Trout. She graduated from Red Oak High School in 1939 and was married to L.V. “Pete” Bartles on May 19, 1940, in Red Oak. To this union five children were born. In 1945, the family moved to Pacific Junction so Mr. Bartles could work on the railroad as well as with various farmers.

While living in Pacific Junction, Mrs. Bartles was a custodian for the Pacific Junction School System and later became a homemaker. During this time she was also a child-care provider for many families throughout the years. She had various interests, which included collecting owls, salt and pepper shakers, attending family reunions, reading, doing crossword puzzles and camping at the Iowa State Fair. She was a member of the Pacific Junction United Methodist Church, and was actively involved in the Pacific Junction Community Betterment Committee. She was always faithful about donating blood to the American Red Cross as long as she was able.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; daughter Wyonda “Dolly” Wood; sisters, Addie Jane Fellows; and Helen Doering; infant sisters, Ethel Marie Trout; and Grace Rebecca Trout; brothers, Lewis Trout; and Emory Trout; and great-grandson, Carter Ratliff. She is survived by her children, Gary and wife Pat Bartles of Arvada, Colo.; Mary Louise and husband Lee Covin of Macclenny, Fla.; Lory and husband David Benedict of Malvern; Becky and husband Fred Nuss of Pacific Junction; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Memorials may be made to the Pacific Junction United Methodist Church or Glenwood Public Library.
