Marlin T. Young, 88, of Bedford, N.H., passed away Dec. 27, 2011 in Milford, N.H. There will be no services at this time. Interment will be held May 19, 2012, at the Westlawn Cemetery in Littleton, Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Loaves and Fishes, P.O. Box 1, Ayer, Mass. 01432. Marlin was born May 19, 1923, in Glenwood, son of the late Marlin T. and Nellie (Noah) Young. He grew up in Glenwood and graduated from Glenwood High School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II on the aircraft carrier USS Hancock (CV-19). Marlin’s patriotism to his country continued through the years while attending many USS Hancock (CV-19) reunions as one of the few remaining veterans from the carrier.
Marlin met his wife of 63 years while on leave in Boston, Mass. Marlin and Ruth married May 23, 1948, and settled in Massachusetts. After the war, Marlin worked for Jordan Marsh in Boston for a few years, but went back to his passion of Naval Air and the Air Force. He worked on the original NASA space program as well as Westover A.F.B., Hanscom A.F.B. (where he worked on Air Force One) and retired from General Radio, Concord, Mass.
Marlin and Ruth retired to Falmouth, Mass., to enjoy several homes that they built. During his early years Marlin’s family was raised in Littleton, Mass. While living in Littleton, Marlin was an active member of the Lions Club and a member of The Littleton Historical Society. In recent years Marlin’s residence was in Nashua, N.H. He enjoyed being close to family and friends. An avid golfer, Marlin was a member of the Ponemah Green Senior Golf League. He enjoyed traveling and good food.
Marlin is survived by his wife, Ruth A. (Ewing) Young of Bedford, N.H., his daughter, Lee Ann and son-in-law Alexander Blastos of Milford, N.H. He was also the father of the late Marlin T. Young III.
Marlin was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters. Many beloved brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and friends will have fond memories of Marlin.
