Marilyn Marie (Goodman) Brittain, age 79, of Glenwood

    Marilyn Marie (Goodman) Brittain, age 79, of Glenwood, died Oct. 12, 2009, due to complications from a long illness. Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at Hertz Funeral Home. Officiating was Pastor Mark Smeltzer of Glenwood Community Church. Interment was in the Glenwood Cemetery.

    She was born on July 7, 1930, in Council Bluffs, to Dean E. and Vera Sarah (Hawkins) Goodman. She was joined by one sister, Barbara Lee Goodman and one brother, Donald Ivan Goodman. She attended first and second grade in Silver City, then moved with her family to Glenwood. She also attended school in Council Bluffs and in Omaha, before returning to Glenwood.

    She married Delbert Dwayne Brittain on May 23, 1948. They were blessed with four children, Janace Lorraine, Vickie Lynn, Deborah Kay and Ronald Dwayne.  Mrs. Brittain worked at the Falk Corporation in Reno, Nev., before retiring in 1985.  She loved country and western music, square dancing, reading, and genealogy. She will be greatly missed by all whose life she touched.

     Mrs. Brittain was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter Janace.  She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Delbert Brittain of Glenwood; son, Ronald Brittain, of Glenwood; daughters, Deborah Lane and husband Bruce of Oceanside, Calif.; and Vickie Harmon and husband Bill of Idaho Falls, Idaho; brother, Donald Goodman of Yuma, Ariz.; sister, Barbara Appleton of Brea, Calif.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and friends.

    Memorials suggested to Hospice of Southwest Iowa, Alzheimer’s Association, Tabor Manor Care Center or Oakland Manor Care Center.
