Knights score early and often in 66-0 rout
Fremont-Mills scored on its third offensive play of the night and sprinted out to a 40-0 first quarter lead en route to a 66-0 victory over Essex in Eight-Man, District 7 football Friday in Essex.
Knight quarterback Mason Vanatta got the scoring started early when he connected with Connor Alley on a seven-yard touchdown pass just over a minute into the game. Vanatta would add two more TD tosses in the opening frame on night the senior signal-caller complete 9-of-10 passes for 128 yards and five TDs, all in the first half. Vanatta’s touchdown passes went to five different receivers.
The Knights finished with a season-high 421 yards, including a season-best 293 on the ground. Seth Malcom led the ground game with 94 yards and a touchdown on just three carries.
Austin Gartner recorded five sacks on defense and Colton Hauschild wrapped up seven tackles to lead the defense.
Since a season-opening 45-27 loss, the Knights (3-1) have out-scored their last three opponents 173-29 in its three game winning streak since.
Fremont-Mills heads out on the road to face Griswold in a district game Friday.
