Joanne (Blazek) Weis, 73

    Joanne (Blazek) Weis, 73, died March 13, 2010. Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Church in West Des Moines today, Wednesday, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston, on Thursday, March 18 at 11 a.m.

    Joanne Blazek was born on Oct. 31, 1936, on a farm outside of Prescott. She attended country school until the seventh grade and moved on to graduate from Prescott High School in 1954.  She immediately began a career in banking at Iowa State Bank in Creston.  Other banks that she worked at included Glenwood State Bank in Glenwood, Union Bank and Trust in Ottumwa, Brenton Banks in Davenport and Des Moines, and Fiserv in West Des Moines.

    On April 27, 1957, Joanne married Harry Weis of Afton. They spent their 53 years of marriage living in the towns of Glenwood, Ottumwa, Eldridge, and the past 26 years in Clive.  

    She is survived by her husband, Harry; and children LuAnn Weis (Jan L Pewe) of Eldridge; Linda Harrell (Todd) of Randolph, N.J.; Lana (Jeff) Gossman of Westminster, Colo.; and Jerald (Angela) Weis of Norfolk, Neb.; eight grandchildren, and many family and friends across the state and country.
