Jeretta “Jerri” Ann (Wilson) Stivers age 67, of Glenwood
Jeretta “Jerri” Ann (Wilson) Stivers age 67, of Glenwood, died at her home on Aug. 25, 2009. Private graveside services were held Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, in the Thurman Cemetery.
She was one of 11 children of Vernie and Opal May Belle (Bailor) Wilson Stotts and was born in Pacific Junction on Jan. 23, 1942. She graduated from Pacific Junction High School in 1959.
She was united in marriage to Donald L. Stivers of Glenwood, on Dec. 25, 1959, and continued residing in Glenwood. To this union five children were born, Rick, Randy, Rod, Teresa and Reggie. She enjoyed being a homemaker and all of the activities that her family took part in. She loved attending their sporting events, music and dancing programs and continued her interests as a grandmother as well. Once her family was raised, she became a resident treatment worker for the Glenwood Resource Center for 23 years, retiring on July 6, 2006, and looked forward to spending more time with her family.
Mrs. Stivers enjoyed attending Glenwood sporting events with her son Reggie and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes play. Christmas was her favorite holiday. She showed her love through cooking. She had a secret recipe for her famous “Hot Spaghetti” and enjoyed sharing her banana cookies with friends and others in the community. She was a fan of Elvis and remained a loyal supporter of the Rams and Hawkeyes. She never met a stranger and could visit and befriend anyone. Her warm and caring nature made people feel very comfortable. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and dearly loved her family. On May 30, 2007, she was diagnosed with cancer and fought a courageous battle.
Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers, Vernon L. Wilson; Harold L. Wilson; Robert E. Wilson; Kenneth R. Wilson; Alfred “Tex” Wilson; and Jackie C. Wilson; sisters, Maxine F. (Wilson) Hammers Pustover; and Anna Marie (Wilson) Abbott Hytrek. She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Donald L. Stivers of Glenwood; children, Rick Stivers of Glenwood; Randy and wife Kris Stivers of Omaha; Rod and wife Nancy Stivers of Glenwood; Teresa (Stivers) Elwood of Glenwood; and Reggie Stivers of Glenwood; eight grandchildren; sister, Ruth L. (Wilson) Weed of Creston; brother, Ronald “Rex” Wilson of Plattsmouth, Neb.; several nieces, nephews, extended relatives and special friends.
Memorials may be made to the Glenwood Fire Department Memorial Wall, Methodist Hospital Esterbrook Cancer Center, Methodist Hospital Hospice, First Christian Church or Glenwood Booster Club. Peterson Mortuary of Glenwood was in charge of arrangements.
