Jack F. Henderson, 76, Glenwood

Jack Franklin Henderson of Glenwood, age 76, died on July 12, 2009, in his home from a prolonged illness. A celebration of life service will be held at the Peterson Mortuary in Glenwood on Saturday, July 18 at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Darrell Hopp will officiate.   A lunch will be provided at the Senior Center in Glenwood.  There will be a short grave-side service at the Glenwood Cemetery.

    Mr. Henderson was born on Nov. 14, 1932, in Harrison County, near Logan, to Erwin Estes Henderson and Irene Bertha (Pearson) Henderson.  He was the youngest of seven children. He grew up on various farms near Logan with his parents and graduated from high school in Logan.  He became particularly active in music, playing the saxophone.  For most of his life, he played in dance bands in Iowa and throughout the Midwest and loved to entertain.  He was married to Doris Joan Ling in Joplin, Mo., on July 15, 1962. He made a living in retail sales during his adult life and was recently retired in Glenwood.  He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his children and grandchildren and gardening.

    Mr. Henderson was preceded in death by his wife Doris (Peggy) Ling Henderson and his daughter Sharon Kay O’Dell.  He was also preceded in death by four sisters; Lois Rice; and Donna Janssen both of Prescott, Ariz.; Nellie June Charleson of Logan; and Darlene Ball of Neosho, Mo. He is survived by four sons, Randall Jack Henderson of Ankeny; Terry Dale Henderson of Independence, Mo.; Daniel Lee Henderson of Washington, Iowa.; and Martin Ray Henderson of Colorado Springs, Co.; two sisters, Bonnie Frahm of Blair, Neb.; and Dorothy Thompson of Omaha; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

    Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Methodist Hospital, Omaha.
