Ron Kohn Served Community In Many Capacities
Ron Kohn, 80, a longtime public servant in the Glenwood community, passed away Saturday at his home.
Kohn, known for his mild and friendly demeanor, most recently served three terms as Glenwood’s mayor, before health issues forced him to resign from the position in November. Prior to his time as mayor, Kohn served 12 years on the Mills County Board of Supervisors.
“He was a mayor that was really committed to the city,” new Glenwood Mayor Angie Winquist stated. “He believed in Glenwood and he had a lot of things he still wanted to do – that’s why he ran one more time because he wanted to finish some of the projects he’s been working on.”
Kohn’s time in public office came after he retired from a 32-year career as an educator with the Glenwood Community School District, where he taught chemistry and physics. He was also a successful coach during his time as an educator and served as a deacon and active member of Our Lady Of The Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 6, at Holy Rosary Church. A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a scripture service to begin at 7 p.m. on Jan. 5.
