Glenwood sweeps Denison in Hawk-10 volleyball

Glenwood swept Denison 26-24, 25-13, 25-19 to win its second straight Hawkeye 10 Conference home match last Tuesday.

“We made a few adjustments but it worked out in our favor,” said Glenwood coach Chelsey Harvey.

The Rams (11-7 overall, 3-1 in the conference), didn’t light up the scoresheet with 21 kills on .097 hitting, but dominated defensively in the match with 42 digs as a team.

“Defensively we played well,” Harvey said. “We tried to keep it the same way we ended it against Shenandoah (a week earlier) with Jaeda (Wilson) at libero. Sierra Stouder also played great defense. She picked up some big digs in that third set. We showed what we’re capable of doing with our hustle and integrity to win.”

Glenwood played without top setter Cera Gray, who was out with a concussion. But Harvey said junior Brooklyn Taylor, who had played some setter in her career, filled in nicely in her new role.

“We said ‘Let’s give her a shot,’ and she did just fine,” Harvey said. “We put a little pressure on her but we were really proud of what she gave us. She stepped up when needed.”

Gray is expected to return this week.

Emily Todd had six kills and Paige Hays four to lead the Ram offense.

Wilson finished with 14 digs and Stouder eight.

“The girls are finding their confidence and going out and having fun,” Harvey said.
