Glenwood Store Not On Latest List Of Shopko Closings

Shopko announced last week that it has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and will be closing an additional 38 stores over the coming months in several upper midwestern and western states.

The Shopko Hometown store in Glenwood was not on the closure list, but Shopko management and public relations officials have declined to discuss the future of the store at 902 S. Locust St.

Last week’s announcement came five weeks after Shopko disclosed it was closing nearly 40 stores and selling several of its pharmacy operations to Hy-Vee, Kroger and CVS.

Hy-Vee announced in December that it had acquired the Shopko Hometown pharmacy in Glenwood and that the store’s prescription database would be transferred to the Hy-Vee Pharmacy in Glenwood. The transition was originally scheduled to take place today (Jan. 23), but has been pushed back to Feb. 19, according to a letter Hy-Vee sent out last week to Shopko Hometown pharmacy customers.

With the latest list, Wisconsin-based Shopko is now closing more than 100 stores nationwide. Two stores included on last week’s closure list are Shopko Hometown in Plattsmouth, Neb., and the Bellevue, Neb., Shopko store.

According to a story published in the Green Bay Press-Gazette, the timeline, filed in U.S. bankruptcy court in Nebraska, calls for Shopko officials to:

- Auction off the company’s remaining pharmacy assets by Jan. 26 and have the sales approved by Jan. 29.- Secure a reorganization plan sponsor or show the company can finance operations post-bankruptcy by March 14.

- Get the bankruptcy judge’s approval of the reorganization plan by April 12.

- Emerge from bankruptcy by April 15.

If Shopko doesn’t meet the March 14 deadline for putting together a reorganization plan, the company would be forced to liquidate its assets, the Press-Gazette story stated.
