Glenwood smacks 41 kills in H-10 comeback victory

Glenwood dropped the first game and battled back to win the final three in a 23-15, 25-14, 25-10, 25-23 victory over Shenandoah in Hawkeye 10 Conference volleyball last Tuesday.

“Our girls did a great job,” said Glenwood coach Brooke Vander Voort. “They came into the match excited and ready to compete. They really turned on their focus and aggressiveness the second set. We’ve talked a lot this week about focus and mental toughness, and the girls really displayed that last night for us. It was good for our girls to see hard work paying off with a victory.”

The Rams (7-10 overall, 2-1 in the conference) recorded 41 kills on a .300 hitting night. Sierra Stouder had 12 kills and Abbi Decker 10 in the win.

Glenwood was equally strong on the service line with a serve efficiency of .916 (87-of-95) with 11 aces. Brielle Smith led the way with three aces.

After an injury sidelined starting setter Emily Todd, sophomore Cera Gray stepped in for her first major varsity action and did an excellent job running the offense the rest of the night, said Vander Voort.

Gray finished with 28 set assists and the setter-hitter connections were strong for the Rams in the match.

“It allowed our hitters to compete all night and finish with 41 kills on the match,” Vander Voort said.
