Glenwood Places Six on All-District Football Team

The Glenwood football team filled six spots on the Class 3A All-District Football first team released over the weekend.

In vote of district coaches, the Rams’ Mavrick Decker, Caleb Sanders and Kolten Wilwerding were tabbed for the first team offense while Cole Loeffelbein, Carter Von Essen and Andrew Blum were named to the first team defense.

Decker, a junior, led the district with 13 touchdown catches to go with his 40 receptions and 695 receiving yards. Wilwerding, Glenwood’s quarterback, was selected as  offensive at-large player after throwing a Class 3A best 23 touchdowns passes. The junior completed 89-of-153 passes for 1,395 yards and added 402 yards rushing and eight more scores.

Sanders, a 6-foot-1, 250-pound sophomore helped open holes for a Ram offense that averaged 422 yards and 36 points per game.
Von Essen, a linebacker, led the Ram defense with 51 total tackles, including nine for losses. Loeffelbein wrapped up 36.5 tackles from his defensive end spot, including nine for losses and two sacks. Blum recorded 29.5 tackles from his safety spot. Earning second team selection from Glenwood was Quin Baker at offensive line and Aaron Bertini at defensive back.

Reagan McFarlin and Jon Stavas were both honorable mention selections from Glenwood.

Harlan, who shared the District 8 title with Glenwood and Dallas Center-Grimes, led the way with eight first team selections.
