Glenwood girls rout Harlan, win ninth straight

    The Glenwood girls basketball team got its first win in over a decade against Harlan and improved to 9-0 on the season with a 65-45 rout of the Cyclones last Tuesday.

    Glenwood’s last win over the Cyclones on the hardwood was in 1999.
    “We ere excited,” said Glenwood coach Barry Loeffelbein. “They’re always a good team and we wanted to play well and we did. This was a good win.”
    The No. 5 ranked Rams (9-0 overall, 5-0 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference) sprinted out to a 21-11 first-quarter lead en route to a 41- point first half barrage. Glenwood coach Barry Loeffelbein began substituting liberally in the fourth quarter with his team leading 58-36.
    Loeffelbein wasn’t away it had been 12 years since the Rams had defeated the Cyclones - he thought it might have been longer.
    “I came here in 2000 and I knew we hadn’t beat them since then,” he said. “I knew it had been a while so it was good to break that streak for these girls.”
    Lexi Moreno led a balanced Glenwood scoring effort with 17 points. Morgan Lucy added 13 and Grace Newman 11. Lexi Fisher and McKenna Henze chipped in nine each.
    Harlan drops to 6-4 overall and 3-2 in the conference.

Rams rout Fillies for 10th win
    Four Rams scored in double figures and the Glenwood girls basketball team improved to 10-0 on the season with a 79-27 rout of Shenandoah on Friday.
    The Rams eclipsed 70 points for the eighth time in 10 games and had 10 players score in the win.
    Morgan Lucy hit 8-of-11 shots, scored 19 points and pulled down seven rebounds.
