Glenwood girls rout Creston, move to 5-0

The Glenwood girls stayed perfect on the season with a 75-45 Hawkeye 10 Conference victory over Creston on Friday.

The Rams (5-0 overall, 2-0 in the conference) got off to a 44-17 first-half lead and never looked back in the road win over the Panthers.
“We had a quick start, got a big lead and we really put it away in the first half,” Glenwood coach Barry Loeffelbein said.
Morgan Lucy led Glenwood with a season-high 23 points. Kierney Motz scored 10 points and Grace Newman and Lexi Fisher chipped in with nine and eight each, respectively.
“We got sloppy at times and didn't take great care of the ball but we had balanced scoring, a lot of girls got in and, overall, we played pretty well,” Loeffelbein said.
Chelcee Downing led Creston with 10 points.

Glenwood 61,
C.B. Lewis Central 51
The Glenwood girls basketball team rallied from a five-point halftime deficit with a 16-4 third-quarter run to pull away from Council Bluffs Lewis Central in a 61-51 non-conference victory over the Titans last Monday.
“We played pretty sluggish in the first half and didn't get a lot done on offense but we made enough shots to stay in it,” Loeffelbein said. “In the second half we played better, hit some shots and were able to get up.”
The Rams, who struggled to find their touch on the offensive end in the first half, came out on fire in the third quarter. Following a Titan layup, the Rams rattled off 13 straight points to take a 41-33 lead in the final frame.
“I think we shot better, but we also moved Morgan (Lucy) away from the basket a little to open up the lane where they were concentrating on her and it got some other girls some chances. We also moved better and that opened things up too,” Loeffelbein said of his team's third quarter play.
Grace Newman went 4-of-6 behind the arc and led Glenwood with 19 points.
Lexie Fisher scored 10 and Morgan Lucy, who was limited to a handful of shots by a Titan defensive effort keyed on her, finished with nine points and eight rebounds. McKenna Henze added eight points.
Delaney Higgins scored 20 points to lead the Titans.
