Glenwood girls, boys second at Cyclone invite
The Glenwood girls and boys cross country teams both placed second at the Cyclone Invitational Saturday in Harlan.
The host Cyclones had all five of its place winners finish in the top 12 to top girls field with a team score of 42. The Rams, led by Janette Schraft’s first place time of 18:38.87, compiled 68 points for second in the team standings.
“I was really impressed with our focus because it was homecoming and then the meet got delayed a little bit so I was nervous on how we’d react,” said Glenwood girls coach Dani Woodman. “But I was happy with how we stayed relaxed and focused and we competed during the race. When I looked at our results from last year, three of our girls ran over a minute faster than they did last year. We’re getting better and running hard.”
Schraft was a wire-to-wire winner in Harlan, her fourth top finish in as many races this season.
“Her times, comparing them to last year, have been great and she’s running great,” Woodman said. “She did a little bit different training this summer than she had in the past so that’s helping her.”
Abby McIntyre joined Schraft among the top finishers with a fourth place time of 20:11.65.
Erin Schultz finished 19th, Aubrey McIntyre was 21st and Lacey Jackson 23rd to complete the Glenwood girls scoring.
On the boys side, Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson was the team champions with 57 points to edge Glenwood’s 67 team points.
Glenwood boys coach Todd Peverill was very pleased with his team’s performance.
“We really ran well,” he said. “Sam was great, just missed getting third and Tyler (Huey) had another strong race. We’re getting to that point where our times are coming down, the guys are focused. This is always the race we focus on down the last few weeks as we head into districts. We’re where we want to be and they’re running really well.”
Sam McIntyre paced the Rams with a fifth place time of 17:23.81. Tyler Huey and Parson Covington were just outside the top 10 with 11th and 13th place finishes, respectively.
Mason Parks added a 16th place finish and Nathan Rohrberg was 27th.
Treynor’s Jerry Jorgensen topped the boys field with a time of 16:16.71.
swept the middle school races . The boys finished with 33 points and were led by Jack McMullen’s third place finish. The girls compiled 31 points and were led by third place Danika Arnold.

The Glenwood girls finished second in the team standings to Harlan. The Cyclones, led by fourth place runner Kaia Baker’s time of 20:00.3, placed four runners in the top 10.

Just 26 seconds separated all five of Glenwood’s place winners.
“This was a great race for us,” said Glenwood coach Todd Peverill. “We had a tight group and ran a great race. Sam (McIntyre) was right there at the front until the last 200 meters and he faded and finished as our fifth runner. But that happens. We’re getting better and he’ll get better at closing.”
Parson Covington led the Rams with an eighth place finish time of 17:17.3.
