Glenwood’s Smith, Bierman named to Hawkeye-10 Conference first team

Glenwood’s Brielle Smith and Sydney Biermann have both been named to the first team All-Hawkeye 10 Conference Softball team.

Smith and Biermann, both juniors, were tabbed for the first team by league coaches along with Creston’s Gracie Hagle, Shenandoah’s Logan Hughes, Atlantic’s Alexis Handel, Ally Anderson, Alyssa Derby and Baylee Newell, Harlan’s Morgan Schaben, Denison’s Alex Mohr, Sarah Heilesen and Jazlyn Beeck, Red Oak’s Chloe Johnson and Council Bluffs Lewis Central’s Ashtyn Miller and Josey Shudak.

Atlantic, the Hawkeye 10 Conference champions, led the way with four first team selections.

The Rams’ Biermann went 14-10 in the circle with a 2.75 earned run average and 113 strikeouts in 145 1/3 innings pitched. The junior also belted six home runs, drove in 30 runs and hit .292.

Smith shared the team lead with six round trippers, smacked eight doubles and drove in 29 runs while hitting .333.

Glenwood’s Brooklyn Taylor and Erin Stanley were both named to the second team.
