Gilbert B. Reed, 82, Council Bluffs

    Gilbert B. Reed, 82, of Council Bluffs, passed away June 27, 2011, at Regency Nursing Home in Council Bluffs. Visitation with family will be held Thursday, June 30, 2011, from 5 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, July 1, 2011, at 11 a.m. All services will be at Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel, followed by a luncheon at VFW Club in Council Bluffs. Interment will be Saturday, July 2 at 11 a.m. in the Glenwood Cemetery with military rites by Glenwood American Legion Post 141. The family will direct memorials.
    Gilbert was born Aug. 25, 1928, in Tabor to Charles and Iva (Brittian) Reed. He served his country in the US Army from 1947 - 1950. He worked at Allied Chemical, Silvey Refrigerated Carriers as a driving instructor and for Sam’s Club as a greeter. He was a member of American Legion, Eagles Club No. 38.
    Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents, first wife Marie Reed, son, Roger Reed, and brother, Kenneth Reed. Survivors include his loving wife Betty Hamer Reed of 19 years; daughter Cindy Long-Reed; son, Larry (Michelle) Reed; stepchildren and spouses, Cindy Shannon, Vicki (Ron) Williams, Shari (Tom) Ellis, Kathy Hamer, Candy (Melvin) Neagle, Kim Life, Steve (Marsha) Hamer, Connie Ploeger and fiance Randy Fulkerih; 27 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruby Maxwell, Leta Mae Marlow; and brother, Raymond (Delores) Reed.
