Edith M. Clark, 96, Glenwood
Edith Maxine Clark, age 96, of Glenwood, died at Glen Haven Home on June 4, 2009. A visitation will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. today, (Wednesday) at Hertz Funeral Home in Glenwood. Private funeral services will be held at Hertz on Thursday, June 11, 2009. Pastor Perry Perrett of First Christian Church will officiate. Interment will be in the Glenwood Cemetery.
The youngest of three children of Cloe Belle (Brandon) Brackett and Lee Eugene Brackett, she was born in Cozahome, Ark., on Dec. 28, 1912. She attended school in Cozahome and Marshall, Ark.
On May 22, 1928, she married Jesse Norris Clark in Bloomfield, Ark. As the Depression worsened, the young family moved to Glenwood in search of work. They lived with her mother in the family home on the west edge of Glenwood. Mr. Clark began driving a delivery truck for the Cogley Ice House. Mrs. Clark enjoyed being a mother and raising their four girls, Wanda, Shirley, Virginia and Kathie. The family were members of the First Christian Church in Glenwood. Mrs. Clark loved to garden, read and enjoyed basketball, baseball and quilting. She was an active member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Ladies Encampment Auxiliary, where she held numerous local and state offices.
The couple had been married 48 years, when Mr. Clark died in 1976. She continued to live at the family home for 72 years until her health forced her to move to Linnwood Estates and then to Glen Haven Home in Glenwood. Mrs. Clark was the third generation to have lived on the Levi Brandon homestead, a fact she was always very proud of.
She was preceded in death by her parents Cloe and Lee Brackett; husband Norris Clark; brother Claude Brackett; sister Edna Kunze; son-in-law Roger Lee Bichel; and grandson Christopher Clark Bichel. Mrs. Clark is survived by her daughters, Wanda Morrow and husband David of Las Vegas, Nev.; Shirley McMahill and husband Don of Surprise, Ariz.; Virginia Shepard and husband Roger of Chandler, Ariz.; and Kathie Radford and husband Charles of Glenwood; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
A memorial fund has been established.
