Dorothy M. Trimmer, 86, Malvern
Dorothy May Trimmer, age 86, of Malvern, died at the Manor of Malvern nursing home on April 12, 2009. Funeral services were held at the Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home in Malvern on Thursday, April 16, 2009. Interment was in the Malvern Cemetery. Rev. Carl Phillips officiated.
One of three children of Ivy Myrtle (Klepper) and William H. Trimmer, she was born on Sept. 19, 1922, on a farm near Hastings. Her family lived on several farms in the Malvern and Hastings area. They enjoyed living just south of Hastings on a farm, eventually owned by Richard Goy, because the well water was so soft and they were able to walk to town and to school in Hastings. Her brother, Melvin, was born on her third birthday, so they celebrated many birthdays together.
She was a member of the Hastings United Methodist Church. She attended the Hastings School, was the president of her sophomore class and voted “most friendly” student. She graduated from the Hastings High School in 1942. Ms. Trimmer was a homemaker who helped clean houses and baby sat for local families. She helped her sister Mary and her husband Clarence with fall harvest each year.
She moved to the Malvern Village in 1989 and was a member of the Malvern 39ers Club. She enjoyed riding the Southwest Iowa Transit bus to Red Oak for her errands. She kept the village’s bird feeders full and enjoyed tending to her flowers and small garden just outside her backdoor. She enjoyed her friendship with the Rod Goy family and looked forward to visits from her niece, Jeannie Pontow, and her nephew, Curtis Trimmer and his family. When needed, she enjoyed taking care of the Trimmer’s family dog “Wrinkles.”
Ms. Trimmer entered the Manor of Malvern nursing home on Oct. 10, 2008. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Melvin Trimmer; and sister Mary Nelson and husband Clarence; and nephew Tom Nelson. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Ruth Trimmer of Golden, Colo.: several nieces and nephews; 11 great-nieces and nephews; one aunt; and many friends. Memorials suggested to Friends of the Malvern Library or Malvern Volunteer Rescue.
