Dean M. Stolp, Jr., 60, Glenwood
Dean Merritt Stolp, Jr., age 60, of Glenwood, formerly of Omaha, died at the Golden Living Care Center in Omaha, on March 28, 2009. Private memorial services were held by the family.
One of three sons of Marilyn Joanne (Ivy) and Dean Merritt Stolp, Sr., he was born on Nov. 25, 1948, in Omaha. He grew up in Omaha where he graduated from Tech High in 1968. Following school, Mr. Stolp joined the United States Navy. He was stationed on the USS Bon Hamme Richard Aircraft Carrier during the Vietnam War where he served as an ordinance mechanic. He was discharged in 1971 as a Seaman Middle Class and returned home to Omaha where he began working as an optical technician for an eyeglass manufacturer.
He married Christina Loraine Hicks on July 5, 1978, in Omaha. The couple, along with her children, made their home in Omaha and later moved to Glenwood. Mr. Stolp enjoyed spending time with his new family, traveling, riding motorcycles, and reading. In 2001, his health forced him to retire after 30 years as an optical technician. He and his wife had been married 29 years when she died in June of 2007.
He was preceded in death by his father; wife Christina Stolp; and an infant daughter. He is survived by his mother, Marilyn Stolp of Apache Jct., Ariz.; brothers, David Stolp of Glenwood; and Dale Stolp of Omaha; step-children Connie Spring and Mark; and Bette and Mark Murphy; all of Pacific Junction; David and Paula Barrett, Sr. of Glenwood; Alfred Barrett and Lisa of Arizona; and Michael Barnett of Omaha; four step-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
