Betty A. Smith, 75, Glenwood

February 20, 1936 – March 4, 2011

    Betty Ann (Taenzler) Smith, one of eight children of Rev. Jacob Warren Taenzler and Mary (Heer) Taenzler, was born Feb. 20, 1936, in Colfax. She graduated from Omaha South High and received her teaching degree in Peru, Neb.  She taught music and drama in the schools of Sidney and Percival. Later, Betty worked as a childcare worker, then as a supervisor, at the Glenwood State Hospital School until 1983.  She then took care of her mother until her death in 1999.
    Betty was a member of the Glenwood First Christian Church and sang in the church choir.  She had a great love for music and a beautiful voice; she sang and played the piano for many events for family and friends.
    Betty passed away on March 4, 2011, at the Jennie Edmundson Memorial Hospital in Council Bluffs, at the age of 75 years and 14 days.  She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Pat Lipsett and husband Dick; and sister-in-law Karen Taenzler.
    Betty is survived by sisters, Phyllis Harold and husband Richard; Mary Potts and husband Herman, all of Glenwood; Margaret Hart and husband Don of Atlantic; and Julie Schneckloth and husband Ron of Bellevue, Neb.; brothers, Jacob Taenzler, Jr. and wife Barbara; and Robert Taenzler, Sr., all of Glenwood; many nieces and nephews; extended family; and friends.
    At Betty’s request there will be no visitation or services held. Private burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery.  Memorials may be given to the Glenwood First Christian Church. Hertz Funeral Home of Glenwood is in charge of arrangements.
