Betty L. Hansen, 83, Glenwood

Betty Louise Hansen, age 83, of Glenwood, died at Glen Haven Home in Glenwood on May 1, 2009. Funeral Services were held at Hertz Funeral Home in Glenwood on Monday, May 4, 2009. Dr. Arnold Peterson of Calvary Baptist Church officiated the service. Interment was in the Glenwood Cemetery.

Born in Pacific Junction to Ruben and Pearl Ethel (McCluskey) Stille on June 6, 1925, she was the youngest girl in a family of nine children. She had four brothers, Albert Joseph, Walter Guy, Ernest Charles, and Lee LaCurgas, and four sisters, Leona Viola, Ila Fae, Margaret Pearl, and Bedah Ann. At a very young age, she moved with her family to a farm south of Silver City. It was in Silver City where she was baptized and attended school.

On Dec. 17, 1941, she married Lyle Henry Hansen in a double ceremony with her brother Ernest and his wife Minna. They were married in the Lutheran Church parsonage in Plattsmouth, Neb. She and her husband farmed south of Glenwood, and to this union one son, Larry Lyle, was born on March 8, 1944. After five years, they moved to a farm west of Wales. Two years later, they moved to their home farm west of Red Oak, where they attended Hawthorne Methodist Church. While they lived here, Larry died in an automobile accident in February of 1962. They retired in January of 1977.

Upon retiring, she and her husband moved to Glenwood. They joined the First Baptist Church where Mrs. Hansen served several years on the Board of Deaconesses and Mr. Hansen served on the Board of Trustees. She also sang in the church choir and had many solos with them. This was the home church of her parents, grandparents, and great grandparents. She and Mr. Hansen celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1991 and their 60th anniversary in 2001 in this church.

She and her husband were a working team and together they raised many hogs. She liked keeping a home, which was her pride and joy. She was an excellent cook and was locally noted for her divinity. She taught Sunday School, Bible School, and sang in the choir of each church she attended. She served on many committees in the church, and played piano for the Sunday School for 16 years. In later years, she joined Calvary Baptist Church in Glenwood.

Mrs. Hansen was preceded in death by her husband Lyle in 2002; son Larry; her parents; brothers, Albert Stille, Walter Stille; Ernest Stille; and Lee Stille; and sisters, Leona Henderson; Ila Fae Sieck; and Pearl Young. She is survived by her sister, Bedah Ann Huff of Red Oak; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and countless friends. Memorials suggested to Calvary Baptist Church or AseraCare Hospice.
