Affordable Prom Dresses Sold To Aid Mills County Storehouse
Mills County high school girls who don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on their prom night attire have an opportunity to buy a gown for $25 through a special project that will benefit the Mills County Storehouse.
Kenkel Family Chiropractic is in the process of gathering “gently-used” prom dresses that can be tried on and purchased for $25. Proceeds from the sale will be donated to the storehouse, which oversees operation of the county food pantry.
Lori Skupa, a member of the Kenkel Family Chiropractic staff, said prom gowns sold in retail stores can cost anywhere from $100-$500, but not every girl can afford to spend that much money for a dress.
“Just knowing how much dresses are, we didn’t want anyone to feel left out because they couldn’t afford a prom dress,” Skupa said.
Over 20 dresses are already hanging on the rack and more are expected, including some that were donated for a similar fundraiser at Jennie Edmundson Hospital.
The dresses, being collected at the Kenkel Family Chiropractic office at 407 Sharp St., will be available for purchase on the following “Try On” dates: Saturday, March 28 (10 a.m. – noon), Sunday, March 29 (1 – 2 p.m.) and Saturday, April 11 (10 a.m. – noon). Each dress purchase comes with a $5 discount for prom flowers purchased at the Plattsmouth, Neb., Hy-Vee.
