Wolverines pull away in second half for 61-46 victory

East Mills out-scored Fremont-Mills 29-16 over the final two quarter to blow open a two-points halftime lead in a 61-46 victory in Corner Conference boys basketball Thursday in Tabor.

Michael Schafer scored a game-high 29 points to lead the Wolverines (10-1 overall, 7-0 in the conference) to a second straight win over the Knights (6-8 overall, 4-4 in the conference). The senior guard hit 9-of-17 shot, including 3-of-8 from behind the arc, dished out seven assists and grabbed three steals.

For the game the Wolverines were only slightly better than Fremont-Mills from the field (40.4 percent to 39.5 percent) but held a 33 to 18 rebounding edge.

Eli Owen paced the Knights with 12 points. Taylor Reed added nine points and five rebounds.

East Mills 74,
Clarinda Academy 37

Mason Crouse and Michael Schafer combined for 43 points for East Mills in a 74-37 victory over Clarinda Academy last Tuesday in Malvern.

Schafer scored a game-high 24 and dished out nine assists and Crouse had 19 to lead the Wolverines (9-1 overall, 6-0 in the Corner Conference) in the win. Nic Duysen added nine points and 15 rebounds.

For the game, East Mils shot 52 percent from the field (29-of-55).

Fremont-Mills 67,
Essex 33

Fremont-Mills out-scored Essex 42-19 in the first en route to a 67-33 victory over Essex in Corner Conference boys basketball last Tuesday.

The Knights (5-7 overall, 4-3 in the Corner Conference) led 23-14 after a quarter and then went on a 19-5 second quarter run extend their lead.

Taylor Reed led three Knights in double-figures with 19 points. Cooper Langfelt added 11 and Eli Owen 10.
