Dozens of Mills County veterans and family members enjoyed a picnic together Thursday evening at Glenwood Lake Park.

The “Dog Days Of Summer” event has become an annual event, sponsored by Emily Swinford of Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate, Rachel Pierce of Benchmark Mortgage, Mills County Veterans Affairs and Iowa Works.

The menu included hot dogs and potato chips and was provided to all veterans, active military members, families and anyone else interested in learning more about what the Mills County Veterans Affair Office has to offer.

Elizabeth Richardson, Mills County Veterans Affairs Director, said the annual picnic has grown in popularity and was moved to Glenwood Lake Park from the Veterans Affairs Office to accommodate more people.

Veterans and family members said they were appreciative of the gesture by event sponsors. Organizers said the event is a way to thank the veterans and their families for the sacrifices they’ve given in service to their country.
