Space Heater Suspected Cause Of Silver City Fire

A space heater is being blamed for a fire that destroyed a mobile home in Silver City Thursday.

Firefighters from volunteer departments from Silver City, Glenwood and Oak Township responded to the residence at 300 Pearl St. around 9:30 a.m. When firefighters arrived on the scene the residence was “fully engulfed in flames,” Silver City Volunteer Fire Department Chief Lynn Schrum said.

Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly an hour.

Schrum said the cause of the fire has been ruled accidental relating to a space heater inside the residence. The house was a total loss. The property is owned by Richard Hedrick.

Mills County Emergency Management Director Larry Hurst said Hedrick and his wife have been offered assistance by the American Red Cross.
