Wava Lou Bowley, 93

Aug. 5, 1928 – Jan. 28, 2022

Wava Lou Bowley, 93, of Malvern, passed away at her home on Jan. 28, 2022.  A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022 at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Malvern. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Wava Lou was born on Aug. 5, 1928 in Tabor, one of four children of Ralph and Leta (Penney) Jackson. She grew up in the Glenwood area, attended Old Pacific Country School and graduated from Glenwood High School in 1945. Wava Lou attended Commercial Business School in Omaha, graduating in 1946.

Wava Lou and Odell Louis Bowley were married on March 6, 1954 in Plattsmouth, NE.  They made their home in Glenwood along with Wava Lou’s three children, David, Sheri and Karen Popejoy.  Their marriage was blessed with two children, Kathie and Charles.  She also raised grandson, Todd Timm, as one of her own.

In 1966, the family moved to Malvern, Iowa where Wava Lou enjoyed being a homemaker, mother and grandmother. She worked at the Nishna Cottage in Malvern as a Certified Nurse Aide and Medical Aide, retiring in 1991.

Wava Lou was a member of the Congregational Church in Glenwood.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, reading, working crossword puzzles, doing needlework, and tending to her flower garden each year.

Wava Lou enjoyed navigating around on Facebook.  She was a good friend to all who knew her.  To her family, she was the greatest mom they could ever have. Wava Lou will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Wava Lou was preceded in death by her parents; husband Odell Bowley; son David Popejoy; sister Doris Wiley and husband Delmar; brothers, Max (Wilma) Jackson, and Duane (Doris) Jackson; and brothers-in-law, Delbert (Barbara) Bowley, and Gene Bowley.

Wava Lou is survived by her children, Sheri Timm of Omaha, NE, Karen Popejoy, Kathie (Dennis) Gillett, Charles (Cindy) Bowley, and Todd (Kathy) Timm, all of Malvern; 16 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law Anna Bowley of Alpine, CA; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

The family will direct memorials.
