This time the meteorologists got it right right with their winter storm prediction.

A massive winter storm blew through eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa Thursday morning, dumping  up to 6 - 8 inches of snow on most  communities.

The National Weather Srvice issued winter storm warnings and advisories for much of Iowa and easterm Nebraska leading up to Thursday’s storm. Predictions called for Mills County to get 4-8 inches, which came to fruition. The highest snowfall totals were just north and west of Mills County where  up to 9 inches were reported in some areas.

The snow began falling during the early morning hours, creating hazardous drving conditions on area roads. Schools in the Glenwood, East Mills and Fremont-Mills school districts were all closed on Thursday.

Glenwood Mayor Ron Kohn issued a proclamation declaring a “Snow Emergency” that went into effect on Thursday at noon.

When a snow emergency is issued, parking is prohibited on all city streets and parking areas (except designated overnight areas) until public works crews have had an opportunity to clear snow from the street or parking area.

While city, county and state road crews had most area roadways open by Thursday evening, sunshine and warm temperatures over the weekend helped melt most of the snow that had fallen during the storm.
