New Russ's Market Grocery Store Coming In 2024
Glenwood is getting a new grocery store with a familiar name.
Russ’s Market recently announced plans to open a new Glenwood supermarket in the adjacent space next door to its current location at 900 S. Locust St. The new Russ’s Market will be located in the building that previously housed the Shopko Hometown retail store – Place’s and Pamida before that.
Marty Jarvis, director of marketing for Lincoln, Neb. – based B&R Stores, said the new Glenwood store will open next year but a timeline has not been finalized.
“Some time in 2024,” Jarvis said. “With construction, it’s hard to put a firm date on it. We’re going to remodel that area and once it’s done, move over there.”
Jarvis said the move will allow Russ’s to offer an expanded line of products and some new amenities.
“It’s going to be larger with a full bakery and deli and have more products throughout the aisles, as well,” Jarvis said.
Russ’s Market came to Glenwood in October 2018, after B&R Stores purchased the Newman’s grocery store from longtime Glenwood grocer Dan Newman. B&R Stores owns and operates 34 grocery stores in Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri. B&R Stores has nine Russ’s Market’s locations and also operates under the banners of Super Saver, Cash Saver Food Outlet, CNR Market, Allen’s and Grand Central Apple Market.
The employee-owned corporation was founded in 1964 by Russ Raybould. The first Russ’s Market opened in Lincoln the same year. B&R Stores expanded into Iowa in 1993 with the opening of its Council Bluffs Super Saver store.
Jarvis said B&R Stores is appreciative of the support and patronage Russ’s Market has received in Glenwood since coming to town five years ago.
“We’ve been supported well from the community and we want to give the Glenwood community a store they can be proud of,” he said.
