Community Advocate Joe George Recognized As Citizen Of The Year

Tami Bertini, special education teacher at Northeast Elementary, was honored as the Glenwood Educator of the Year.
Instrumental music instructor Sarah Hotchkiss received the chamber’s award for being East Mills Educator of the Year.
Junior Citizen of the Year Award winner Jack Sayers.
Glenwood Community School District Food Services Director Terry Marlow received the Mills County Chamber Of Commerce’s Customer Service of the Year Award.
Classic Cafe’s Brad and Alicia Hagen were recognized with the Mills County Chamber of Commerce’s Community Spirit Award.
Jen Wilson and Jaimie Fisher of the Glenwood Community High School Alumni Association accepted the chamber’s Organization of the Year Award.
Diana Hoogestraat was thanked and honored for her contributions as the chamber’s past president.
A Mills County resident who’s given countless hours of his time to public service and community betterment projects has been chosen the Mills County Chamber of Commerce’s Citizen of the Year.
Joe George was presented the award during the chamber’s annual community betterment awards banquet Thursday night at The Fountains. George, one of five finalists for the award, received multiple nominations.
One of the nominations stated, “It seems Joe is part of every organization, committee or board in Mills County. Joe dedicates countless hours of time to ensure the future of our county is bigger and better than what it is now.”
Another nomination mentioned George’s involvement on the Glenwood Library Board, Glenwood Library Foundation, Glenwood Betterment, Davies Amphitheater, Glenwood Rotary and at Grace United Methodist Church, where he teaches Sunday school.
A third nomination noted the instrumental role George has played in Glenwood’s ongoing Downtown Revitalization project, “tirelessly working to ensure Glenwood’s CDBG Downtown Revitalization application was approved” and his volunteerism at the Mills County Fair.
George has also been an advocate for the Malvern community, where he serves as city clerk,
The Citizen of the Year was one of several awards given out at the chamber banquet. The following awards were also presented at the banquet:
