Clint Hurdle Bringing Major League Messaage Of Inspiration To Glenwood

Clint Hurdle
Clint Hurdle, former Major League baseball player and current member of the Colorado Rockies coaching staff, will be making an appearance in Glenwood on Saturday, June 14, on behalf of Hillsdale Community Church.
Hurdle is a personal friend of Hillsdale Community Church Pastor Ken Demlow.
“During the pandemic, Hillsdale Community Church in Mills County, like all churches and most organizations, was not able to do many of the things we knew we should be doing. In that difficult time, Hillsdale church leaders started discussing what things the church could do,” said Demlow. “The thought process was: If the church didn’t have any constraints (COVID-19, money, workers, etc.), what could we do that would be good for the people of Mills County and Southwest Iowa?
“One of the things that came out of those discussions was Hillsdale Hearts In Action – Outreach and Events. Our main goal is to bring positive, encouraging family events to southwest Iowa. We had some friends who are somewhat famous who have wonderful stories to share that we all can be encouraged and learn from. Clint definitely fits that description.”
Hurdle began his Major League Baseball career with the Kansas City Royals in the 1970s and played on their 1980 World Series team. He went on to play for the Cincinnati Reds, New York Mets, St. Louis Cardinals and the New York Mets.
After his playing career, Hurdle became a coach and evenutally a manager with the Colorado Rockies, leading them to the 2007 World Series. In 2010, the Pittsburgh Pirates hired him as manager, and he led them until 2019.
After the Pirates, Hurdle rejoined the Rockies as a special assistant to the General Manager. With the Rockies struggling this 2025 season, they made some coaching changes and asked Hurdle to take over as hitting coach. On May 11, he was named interim bench coach.
Despite the Rockies having a game in Atlanta on June 14, Hurdle is committed to coming to Glenwood.
“With these new coaching roles, Clint travels with the team,” Demlow noted. “When taking on these roles, he had to cancel many of the events he was going to participate in. But, he made sure he would be able to come to Glenwood.”
Demlow’s appearance in Glenwood will take place on the football field at the Glenwood Activities Complex. After conducting a youth baseball clinic in the afternoon, Hurdle will take part in a VIP Meet and Greet from 4:30-6 p.m. Regular seating at the football field opens at 6 p.m. with music and entertainment. Hurdle will be speak from 6:30-7:15 p.m.
“Clint provides a powerful and inspiring message about perseverance, leadership and living a life of purpose,” Demlow said. “This is an opportunity to meet a baseball hero and have an unforgettable evening of fun and encouragement.”
Demlow noted that Pet Rock is scheduled to perform at the Davies Amphitheater on the same night. A special provision is being made for people wanting to attend both events.
“If people are going to the Davies to see Pet Rock, they can buy a regular seating ticket and come at 4:30. If they show their Davies Theater Gold Card, they can get upgraded to a VIP ticket for free,” he said. “They can meet the coach, be there for a majority of the event and leave to go over to the Davies in time for Pet Rock.”
Ticket prices for Hurdle’s appearance in Glenwood are $20 for Adult Regular Seating; $8 for Children Regular Seating; $30 for Adult VIP Seating and $8 for Children VIP Seating (accompanied by an adult).
