City Replacing Splash Bucket At Aquatic Center

The “play area” bucket at the Glenwood Aquatic Center will be replaced before the start of the 2024 swimming season.
The Glenwood Aquatic Center will have a new splash bucket to dump water on swimmers when the facility opens next spring.
The Glenwood City Council approved the purchase of a new bucket at its regular meeting last Tuesday. The existing bucket, which is seven years old, was not working properly and was taken out of service for the 2023 swimming season.
The new “play feature” bucket will be purchased from Commercial Recration Specialists for a price of $14,332. Glenwood City Administrator Amber Farnan said Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) dollars will be used to purchase the bucket.
Farnan said additional improvements and repairs could be in order at the facility before next year’s opening.
“It’s possible, we’re still looking,” she said. “We think there’s another leak so we’re looking into that, so there will probably be a few more repairs that are made so that we can try to get it up and running the best that we can.”
Water-loss issues at the aquatic center forced the cancellation of the 2022 season at the facility and a delayed opening in 2023, but Farnan said the plan is to have any necessary repairs made in time to have a full season of swimming in 2024.
