Billy McGuigan To Open 2023 Davies Amphitheater Season
Billy McGuigan’s high-energy show has been a staple at the Davies Amphitheater for nearly two decades. The Bellevue native cut his performing teeth at the Omaha Community Playhouse and turned that into nation-wide tours featuring music from the Beatles to Buddy Holly and good old rock and roll music. He’ll be back to kick off the 2023 Davies Amphitheater season on Saturday.
But this year’s show will be special and a bit different for three reasons. First, McGuigan and his talented brothers and band will be kicking off the Davies season. The music lineup for Saturday’s show hasn’t been fnnounced, but when asked once to give an idea of what fans can expect he said, “We play music that doesn’t suck.” And McGuigan plays music that doesn’t suck better than anyone around.
Secondly, Davies Amphi-theater Gold Card holders will get a discount at the gate this year. Admission for the show is $15, cash or check at the gate. But flash your Gold Card at the gate and get $5 off admission per person, $10 off for a couple.
And thirdly, this will be McGuigan’s only Omaha area appearance this year. After he and his crew load out after the Davies show, they will be taking a rare summer off.
Show time is 7 p.m. and gates will open at 6 p.m. The usual Davies protocol will be in order. There will be the usual concessions with soft drinks, candy, ice cream and hamburgers.
Patrons may bring in coolers with beer and wine. Lawn chairs are welcome, but there is limited lawn chair space at the top of the seating area. There will be no saving of spots.
Saturday will also mark the first show after an extensive Davies Amphitheater renovation project. Work began last year to replace concrete to help with drainage issues. And Williams Restoration just completed work on replacing over 1,000 bricks on the 42-year old structure.
In addition to discounts for Saturday’s show, your Davies Amphitheater Gold Card will get you free admission to all of the shows for the rest of the season. If you would like to get a Gold Card before Saturday’s show call or text 712-310-1907. Gold Cards are $50 for a family and $25 for an individual.
