It's Homecoming Week In Glenwood

It appears Mother Nature is going to provide nice late-summer weather for the annual Glenwood Homecoming celebration this weekend.

Several official and unofficial activities are planned as part of the celebration - most notably the annual homecoming parade on Town Square Friday afternoon and the grand opening of the new Glenwood Community School District Activities Complex for Friday night’s football game against Dallas Center Grimes. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Friday’s festivities begin with the high school pep rally in the school gymnasium at 10 a.m., followed by the parade at 1:30 p.m. “Broadway Musicals” is the theme of this year’s parade.

Following the parade, Jim Hughes Real Estate will host its annual “Home Sweet Homecoming” community carnival with free refreshments and children’s activities.

The Glenwood Outcasts will honor their new king and queen following the parade at a tailgate reception at Keg Creek Brewing Co.

A large crowd is expected for Friday night’s football game as the Rams break in their new field.

Homecoming culminates Saturday with the 7 p.m. coronation of the 2019 GCHS homecoming king and queen in the school gymnasium. The homecoming dance will follow.

The Glenwood Alumni Association is sponsoring three homecoming-related events Saturday - the Glenwood Ram Run beginnning in Glenwood Lake Park at 8 a.m., a golf scramble starting at 9 a.m. at the Glenwood Golf Course and a street dance on the west side of Town Square beginning at 8 p.m.

Class reunions will be taking place throughout the weekend.
