Glenwood boys
second at LC Invite

The Glenwood boys won second place at the Council Bluffs Lewis Central Co-ed Invitational last Tuesday.

The host Titans won the boys title with 128.5 points. The Rams were second with 112 points.
Glenwood boys coach Mark Starner said his team’s second place finish was a “good night for the most part.”

“We backed off some athletes to get some higher quality efforts in,” Starner said. “Proved to be the right thing on a couple of events as we had some pretty good performances.”

Silas Bales won the 400-meters and placed second in the 200, both in personal bests and season team bests.  Bales also anchored the Rams’ first place sprint medley relay team of Brock Sell, Colby Frye and Tyler Huey to its fastest time of the year as well.

In all, Glenwood’s boys won three events and placed in the top three in five other events.

The Rams’ 4x800-meter was fourth but they nearly matched their season best.

“(Nathan) Rohrberg, (Ethan) Chappell, (Gavin) Connell and (Andrew) Smith all ran well, and not in the easiest wind conditions for their time,” Starner said. “Rohrberg has been knocking on the 2:10 door the last couple of weeks and now he’s arrived and doing it pretty consistently.

The shuttle hurdle relay has been a staple in the Rams’ line up all season and it was no different Tuesday. The quartet of Zander

Hayes, Anthony Driscoll, Grant Von Essen and Tyler Boldra won gold with a time of 1:04.38.

“It’s been pretty dominant at all of our meets.  Atlantic has come on as of late and is pushing us, however, we’ve rose to the challenge and all four members are dropping their times.”
