The Glenwood girls basketball team out-scored Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln 10-6 in overtime to earn a 73-69 victory on the road last Tuesday.

The Class 4A, No. 6 Rams (2-0) led 22-14 after a quarter but could never put the Lynx (1-1) away until the overtime period.

“I feel we played good enough to put ourselves in a position to win down the stretch,” said Glenwood coach Brian Rasmussen. “The atmosphere and intensity was unbelievable, especially for an early season, non-conference game.”

Rasmussen said several players made big plays and big moments down the stretch to secure the win. Joslyn Lewis hit a key three-pointer with a hand in her face to tie the game late in regulation. Abby Hughes and Coryl Matheny both pulled down huge offensive rebounds off missed free throws in the overtime.

“On a night when we were only 11 for 25 from the free throw line, those two girls coming up with those rebounds in overtime helped seal the victory,” he said.

Jenna Hopp led four Rams in doubles figures with 22 points.

With one of their top shooters and scorers (Madison Camden) out with illness, the Rams had several players step up big and backfill her typical points per night. Elle Scarborough and Matheny each had 13 points and Lewis finished with 11.

“We will need to clean up a few things on the defensive side which were exposed and I anticipate quite a few free throws in practice, but overall this was a big non-conference win for us against a very talented Missouri River Conference opponent,” Rasumussen said.

Jillian Shanks scored a game-high 27 for A.L.
