County open to sharing its attorney with Fremont Co.
Officials from Mills and Fremont counties are continuing discussions regarding a 28-E agreement that would allow for the sharing of county attorney services.
Mills County Supervisor Richard Crouch said the agreement is a work in progress.
“We’ve been working on this for some time with them (Fremont County),” Crouch said.
The discussions were initiated after the Fremont County Board of Supervisors learned its county attorney, Brenna Bird, will not seek re-election this year. Fremont County, which has experienced turnover in its part-time county attorney position over the past four years, would contract with the Mills County Attorney’s Office for services under the proposal under consideration.
Crouch said Mills County Attorney Naeda Elliott and her staff are confident they would be able to handle the additional caseload.
The 28-E agreement was scheduled to be discussed during Tuesday’s meeting of the Fremont County Board of Supervisors.
Crouch expects the matter to be addressed again by Mills County supervisors in the near future.
If approved by both counties, the agreement would likely take effect in January 2019.
